TAMPA — Hillsborough County leaders are looking to make major safety changes to Tampa's Westshore area to better help families get from place to place.

Plans include adding new sidewalks, crosswalks and speed humps to areas of Gray Street.

In Cypress Point Park, dramatic before and after renderings reveal a new transit hub. The plan includes adding bikes for rent and even a shuttle so people can better get around the area.

Plans for the intersection of Manhattan and Boyscout Boulevard include new crosswalks and brand new sidewalks to make it easier to get around.

Major changes are also planned near Tampa's Seminole Heights and Tampa Heights neighborhoods.

The Florida Department of Transportation has already started installing street lights along Florida Avenue at the intersections of both Harrison and Fortune Streets. The reason is that more people are walking and biking in that area.

FDOT is also expecting the construction of theJackson Street Protected Cycle Track, which runs through downtown Tampa, to be complete by the end of September, according to the Hillsborough Metropolitan Planning Organization.
