June 1 is the official start of hurricane season, and you should have a plan for making sure your dog or cat is safe during a storm. If you plan to evacuate, arrange pet-friendly lodging well ahead of time. Many hotels either
won't take pets or will be booked ahead of a storm. Make sure you have a pet carrier with bedding, and enough food, toys, and medicine. Remember that if you stay in a shelter, the pet must stay in the carrier. Never leave your pet in your home to ride out a storm alone.
