Hurricane Season Shouldn't Start with Hurricane Pruning

Hurricane pruning or "cutting" is the practice of unnecessarily removing green palm fronds. The practice reduces nutrient availability.  The practice weakens the structural integrity of the palm and makes it more susceptible to damage during storms.  Selective removal of dead (totally brown), damaged or diseased fronds is the best recommendation. Hurricane cuts are not necessary and are damaging to the plant.
