OMG, have you seen bacon prices lately?

Don't Waste Your Money

It's happened to all of us: You notice a favorite product at the grocery store is suddenly smaller than it used to be. This year, it's costing a lot more money to bring home the bacon.

Pricier...and Smaller too!

Not only are prices up, but when you start cooking it up, you'll find you're also getting less sizzle for your buck.

Tony Harris found that what was been a pound of bacon -- 16 ounces -- in many cases is now just 12 ounces.  That's typical of many products these days.

However, if only the price were the same. We paid $6.59 for a pound of Oscar Mayer, and $5.99 for just 12 ounces (the "new pound") of Hormel.

A year ago bacon was just $3.50 pound according to CNN/Money, which blames soaring pork prices, due to a hot, dry year, and rising feed prices.

You Can Still Avoid the Price Hike

With most shrinking products, whether it's bacon, cereal, or toilet paper, not all brands are taking part in the size reduction. We found some store brands still giving a full pound of bacon in a pack for a reasonable $4.50.

So if you're ticked off, it's a great time to give another brand a try, so you don't waste your money.
