We are devastated to hear that a child has died after being injured by a car crashing into our center in Winter Park, Florida today. We are further heartbroken that several of the other children in our care and an adult were injured in this accident today.Earlier this afternoon, a driver was reportedly forced off of the road and drove their vehicle into our Goldenrod KinderCare center in Winter Park. Our staff immediately assessed the children for injuries and contacted emergency responders for assistance. They then began notifying all of our center parents of this incident and evacuating all other children and staff from the building as a precaution. At this time, our information about this situation comes from the Florida Highway Patrol and theOrange County Public Information Officer. Those authorities have confirmed that 11 children and one adult were transported to local hospitals with various injuries. Other than confirming the death of one child, authorities have not released updated information on the condition of the others who were injured. Children who were not injured have been reunited with their parents. We are providing alternate sites for our students to attend in the coming days in order to allow the investigation and repairs to the building to proceed. Our thoughts are with all of our families and staff, particularly with the tragic and incomprehensible loss of a child. We are pulling for those who have been injured to quickly recover from this tragic accident.
Corchado is no stranger to the law, according to authorities. He's currently awaiting trial on cocaine and marijuana charges and has already spent three years in prison for other drug related offenses. Bay Area law enforcement are also familiar with Corchado as he served time for extortion of an employee at a juvenile detention facility in Polk County.
In addition, just a week before the fatal daycare crash, Corchado was ticketed by Winter Park police for careless driving.
