MIAMI - Humberto became first hurricane of 2013 season Wednesday.
The storm missed by only hours making the record books as the latest first hurricane of the Atlantic season.
At 11 a.m., the hurricane was approximately 340 miles west of the southernmost Cape Verde islands, and poses no threat to land.
Maximum sustained winds were 80 mph. The storm was moving north at 9 mph.
The U.S. National Hurricane Center says the system could increase in intensity today, before weakening on Thursday.
