2009 Tampa Bay Start! Heart Walk

What:  

The Tampa Bay Start! Heart Walk – one of the area’s largest “walk” events – is a 3-mile walk starting at Raymond James Stadium benefiting the American Heart Association.  A 1-mile course is also available.   The route includes walking through Al Lopez Park, through Raymond James Stadium and down the sideline of the actual playing field.  Walkers will have their image displayed on the Jumbotron as they move down the field.  This year over 20,000 walkers are expected to participate in the Tampa Bay Start! Heart Walk to save lives from heart disease and stroke – the No.1 and No.3 killers in America.

When:  

Saturday, November 14

8:00 a.m. – Noon

Activities start at 8:00 a.m., walk starts at 9:00 a.m.

Where:  

Raymond James Stadium, Tampa

Cost:          

FREE, although donations are appreciated

Photo Opportunities    

- Show 20,000 Tampa Bay citizens start walking

- Show an 850 pound steel heart created just for this event by Gerdau Ameristeel and speak with the employees who created it

- Speak with heart and stroke survivors of all ages

- Speak with doctors and nurses walking for their patients, family and friends

Why:    

As the signature fundraising event for the American Heart Association, the Start! Heart Walk promotes physical activity and heart-healthy living in a fun, family environment.  For every one hour of regular, vigorous exercise, like brisk walking, you can live two hours longer.
