Just when you thought the I-275 construction project in Tampa couldn't get worse, the Florida Department of Transportation closed the southbound I-275 exit ramp (Exit 41A/B) to Dale Mabry Highway for four months. The closure occurred just before 4:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.
Drivers will be detoured onto Himes Avenue, to Cypress Street, then back to Dale Mabry Highway. (See detour map above.)
FDOT reminds drivers that Himes Avenue is an exit from the left lane of southbound I-275.
In order to handle the additional traffic, the Himes exit ramp was lengthened and widened where it joins Himes Avenue to provide a left turn lane, a middle lane where turns will be permitted in either direction, and a right turn lane.
In a release, FDOT stated, "This ramp closure will be an inconvenience to the many motorists who use that exit driving to work, business, and shopping and entertainment venues in that area. However, this four-month closure has been determined to be the more practical way to reconstruct the ramp and adjacent construction area.”
