TAMPA - Another traffic pattern shift on southbound I-275 between downtown Tampa and the Westshore area could cause some driver confusion for a few days.
Early Wednesday morning, the right-hand exit to Himes Avenue from southbound I-275 was closed, and a temporary left exit was opened. The Florida Department of Transportation says the Himes exit will be on the left until late 2014, while a new right-hand exit is constructed.
Additionally, Himes Avenue is closed under I-275 until Friday evening for demolition of the existing 275 overpass. .Northbound traffic is detoured west on Cypress Street, north on Dale Mabry then east on Spruce Street. Southbound traffic is detoured west on Spruce, south on Dale Mabry then east on Cypress.
This is the second relocation of the Himes exit since the reconstruction of southbound 275 got underway in July, 2012, and the third since the completion of northbound reconstruction. Last year, the Himes exit was reopened closer to Himes, after it was moved farther east during the portion of reconstruction on northbound 275.
.Drivers who miss the left-side Himes exit can use the next exit at Dale Mabry Highway. Turn right on Dale Mabry, right on Columbus to Himes Avenue.
