Wrong-way driver killed after crashing into ambulance on I-275

TAMPA - A wrong-way driver on I-275 S crashed into an ambulance early this morning. The driver of the Honda Accord that was apparently heading the wrong way on I-275 died on the scene.

The wrong-way driver has not yet been identified - according to law enforcement officials on the scene, he didn't have identification on him. Attempts to identify the man through vehicle registration has turned out to be inconclusive.

According to the report, the driver actually started off in the wrong lanes on I-4 before going to I-275 where he crashed head-on with the ambulance. He wasn't wearing a seatbelt and alcohol and/or drugs are suspects to have been in use.

Ambulance driver Tarel Omar Peralta of Wesley Chapel and passenger Kemecia Tasha Gave Smith of Lutz were both transported to St. Joseph's Hospital with minor injuries.
