The Tampa Bay Buccaneers dealt defensive end Gaines Adams to the Chicago Bears on Friday in exchange for a 2010 second- round draft pick.

The Bucs selected Adams with the fourth overall pick in the 2007 Draft, and the third-year player is coming off a 2008 season in which he started all 16 games and recorded 6 1/2 sacks.

The Clemson product, figured to be expendable due to Tampa Bay's depth at defensive end, has recorded 124 tackles and 13 1/2 sacks in 37 career games -- 29 starts -- with Tampa Bay, including 14 tackles and one sack in five starts this season.

The NFL trade deadline is October 20.
