California Chrome will go for Triple Crown last achieved by Affirmed in 1978

NY racing officials clear nasal strips

Tampa - There will be a run for the Triple Crown on the first Saturday of June at Belmont Park.

New York racing officials wasted no time and ruled that California Chrome can wear nasal strips in the race.

Use of equine nasal strips were banned from horse racing in the state of New York.

The decision ends that ban.

California Chrome's owners threatened to pull their horse out of the race if he couldn't wear the nasal strips.

So, the three-year old keeps his hopes alive of becoming the first horse since Affirmed in 1978 to win the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes in the same year.
