The Houston Dynamo closed out their regular
season with a 3-2 win at Chivas USA on Sunday afternoon at The Home Depot
Center.
The win propels the Dynamo into a tie with the Los Angeles Galaxy atop the
Western table with 48 points, but the Galaxy own the tiebreaker and will take
the top seed in the Western Bracket of the upcoming MLS Cup playoffs.
Houston (13-8-9) will be the second seed, followed by Seattle, and Chivas USA.
Columbus and Chicago clinched in the East, with the other spots to be
determined after the New England, Columbus game later on Sunday.
Andrew Hainault opened the scoring for Houston with his first goal of the
season in the 26th minute. Dominic Oduro added his first just three minutes
later to give the visitors a 2-0 advantage. Brad Davis assisted on both goals.
Abe Thompson scored the game winner in the 52nd minute to make it 3-0 after
Geoff Cameron played a diagonal ball in the Chivas USA penalty area that he
deflected home from five yards out. It Thompson's first goal of the season as
well.
Chivas USA (13-11-6) started chipping away at the lead in the 59th minute when
Michael Lahoud pulled one back for the hosts to make it 3-1, and Eduardo
Lillingston added an 88th minute penalty kick goal, but that was as close as
the Goats could get.
