Immelman has surgery on injured left wrist

Last Update: 10/23 12:23 pm

Former Masters champion Trevor Immelman underwent surgery to fix the left wrist injury that kept him from playing the final three majors of the season.

The procedure was performed on Thursday at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, according to Immelman's representatives at IMG.

The 2008 Masters champion had a severe case of tendinitis that also impacted other areas of his wrist, his surgeon said. Surgery was recommended after exhausting all other treatment options.

"I'm extremely pleased with how the surgery went and I'm confident Trevor will make a full recovery in time for the 2010 season," said Dr. Andrew Weiland.

The injury first forced Immelman to withdraw from the Memorial in June. It also kept him from playing in the U.S. Open, the British Open and the PGA Championship.

Despite having surgery the day before, the 29-year-old South African was back posting on his Twitter page Friday morning.

"Everything went as planned and I thank Dr. Weiland and his team," Immelman wrote.
