Detroit vs. Boston Game Recap
Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Chris Osgood stopped all 29 shots he faced to
post his first shutout of the season and lead Detroit over Boston, 2-0, at Joe
Louis Arena.
"I thought he played well tonight. They had a few opportunities and he did
well with them," said Wings head coach Mike Babcock about his goaltender. "I
give him a lot of credit. We challenged our goaltender to be better than he
has been in the last couple games and he did that."
Henrik Zetterberg and Tomas Holmstrom provided goals for the Red Wings,
winners in three of their last four games.
Tim Thomas made 24 saves in defeat for the Bruins, who have dropped two in a
row without scoring a goal. On Sunday, Thomas allowed just one score but was
outdueled by Henrik Lundqvist of the Rangers in a 1-0 setback.
The Wings picked up a power-play goal with 5:39 left in the first period as
Pavel Datsyuk won a left-circle draw ahead to Zetterberg for a one-timer.
Holmstrom doubled the lead at 17:43 with his eighth of the season, redirecting
Zetterberg's behind-the-back dish.
That proved to be enough offense for Osgood, who kept the Bruins at bay with
13 first-period saves, and eight stops both in the second and third periods.
"I see a lot of good things, even though we made a couple of mistakes that
cost us," Thomas noted. "We want to put the puck in the net. We're still
getting chances, sniffing right around the edge but it's not going in for us."
