New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg announced a championship ticker-tape parade for the Yankees, to be held Friday morning.

The Yankees wrapped up their 27th World Series title with a 7-3 Game 6 win over the 2008 champion Philadelphia Phillies Wednesday night.

Friday's parade will begin on Broadway at Battery Place at 11 a.m. (et) and continue northbound up the Canyon of Heroes to Chambers Street. The parade will be followed by a ceremony at City Hall Plaza, when Bloomberg will present the Yankees with the keys to the city.

"Congratulations to the Yankees for bringing the world championship back home to New York City, where it belongs," said Bloomberg. "The Yankees have thrilled the city all year long with their come-from-behind victories and never-say-die attitude, and they did it again in the World Series. What's sweeter than a World Series won at home? The only thing that comes close is a ticker-tape parade up the Canyon of Heroes, and that's exactly what New Yorkers will get on Friday. The Phillies were a tough team to beat, but I must admit I look forward to seeing Mayor (Michael) Nutter in pinstripes as he joins me and some of our public schools students as we paint the Albert Einstein School in the Bronx."

Nutter made the side bet with Bloomberg before the World Series and will go to New York to help paint a mural on the side of a recreation center wearing a Yankees jersey.
