TAMPA - The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are trying to make sure area children learn the value of fitness and education.
As part of the team's "Gridiron Give-Back," running back LeGarrette Blount, safety Cody Grimm, wide receiver Tiquan Underwood, linebacker Dekoda Watson and Buccaneers Cheerleaders visited Potter Elementary School on Tuesday.
The group participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the latest Buccaneers Fitness Zone and donated $5,000 in sporting equipment. Players and United Way volunteers also participated in football drills and read to students as a way to promote the importance of early childhood literacy.
The "Gridiron Give-Back" is a partnership between the Bucs, Hess Corporation and United Way Suncoast. This is the second year the Buccaneers and Hess have teamed up in the joint venture.
This year, the program is donated $175,000 to five local schools.
