Trump Team Reportedly Knew Early On That Flynn Was Under Investigation

President Donald Trump's transition team reportedly knew Michael Flynn was under investigation before he was hired as national security adviser.

The New York Times reports Flynn told the team's chief lawyer before the inauguration that he was under federal investigation for lobbying work for the Turkish government.

Flynn resigned less than a month after taking the adviser job. He admitted he'd given Vice President Mike Pence "incomplete information" about a phone call with the Russian ambassador to the U.S.

The news comes shortly after another damaging report by the Times saying Trump asked former FBI chief James Comey to drop the Flynn investigation after he resigned.

Trump fired Comey on May 9. The White House said Trump fired him following recommendations by the U.S. attorney general and deputy attorney general.

But President Trump contradicted that during an interview with NBC's Lester Holt.

"Oh, I was going to fire regardless of recommendation," he said.

Many have since questioned whether the president obstructed justice and tried to impede a federal investigation by firing Comey. Lawmakers on both sides have said it's worthy of investigation.
