TAMPA / ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - A police chase that began in the USF area of Tampa has ended 30 miles away in south St. Petersburg.
According to Tampa Police, the chase started after Officer G. Bricha ran the tag of a pickup truck that was determined to be stolen from Mississippi. When the officer confronted the occupants at a gas station in the area of 15th Street and Fowler Avenue, Lebaron Woods, 21, and Landrick Edwards, 23, got out of the truck and attempted to flee, but they were apprehended and taken into custody.
But a third man, Gregory Deonte Brinson, 23, stayed in the car and sped away from the scene.
The driver got onto Interstate 275 southbound and drove for roughly 30 miles southbound at high rates of speed, until getting off at 15th Avenue South.
Brinson abandoned the vehicle in the area of Fargo Street South and 13th Avenue South in south St. Pete.
The driver fled on foot, and was chased to the address of 1227 Fargo Avenue South and arrested near the home.
Investigators spent much of the morning canvassing the home on Fargo Avenue and removed bags of evidence, a large box and what looked to be a large rifle from the home.
No word if the suspect knew the people inside or what their connection to this early morning chase may have been.
The driver will be booked into the Pinellas County Jail. The status of the two other occupants in the vehicle has yet to be stated by Tampa Police. St. Petersburg Police assisted in the end of the chase, the department confirmed.
