PALM HARBOR, Fla. - A triathlon for kids is happening next weekend at the Palm Harbor YMCA. The Swim Bike Run for Freedom is organized by the YMCA and Palm Harbor Tri Warriors and kids as young as 5 years old can get involved, training wheels included.
The triathlon is for kids ages 5-15 and includes a short swim, bike and a run along with medals and t-shirts for all participants. First-timers are encouraged to participate.
The distances for each age group are:
Ages 5-6, 25 yard swim, 1 mile bike and ¼ mile run
Ages 7-10, 100 yard swim, 2 mile bike and ½ mile run
Ages 11-15, 200 yard swim, 4 mile bike and 1 mile run
The race costs $25 to participate and the event starts at 7 a.m., but families are encouraged to arrive early for set up.
Items children should bring:
- Bathing suit for the pool swim
- Goggles (swim cap makes it easier to swim for long hair)
- Water bottle
- Bike pump
