WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - West Palm Beach Police are investigating the discovery of two bodies inside the Dreyfoos School of the Arts Wednesday morning in West Palm Beach.
Police were called to the scene just before 6:30 this morning after employees found the bodies.
Palm Beach County School District spokesman Jason Shockley confirmed that one of the people found dead is a school custodian.
"It's an open death investigation," West Palm Beach Police spokesman Capt. David Bernhardt said. "That way we're not limiting to ourselves what type of investigation we are doing. It could turn out to be a homicide investigation later on, it could just be a normal death investigation."
Captain Bernhardt could not confirm is a crime had been committed.
He said it appeared the bodies were found in a maintenance or supply area of the school building. They were not found in a classroom. He said there was no obvious sign of how the two people died. He declined to give the ages or genders of the victims.
Matthew Baquero, who graduated from Dreyfoos a month ago, said he knows a number of custodians and was close to a few of them. "I can't believe this is happening at my school this is stuff that you only see in the news like somewhere in Connecticut or in another state but I can't imagine this happening at my school right now."
The FBI was on the scene briefly but left after learning there was no active shooter on campus.
Police, including SWAT, have been in and out of the school this morning. The SWAT team was inside to secure the building.
Investigators are expected to be on scene at least through mid-afternoon.
