OCALA, Fla. - Florida Highway Patrol are mourning the loss of one of their own Sunday.
Trooper Chelsea Richard was killed Saturday while she was responding to a crash on I-75 southbound in Marion County.
Richard was on the shoulder of the highway assisting two drivers who were involved in a crash around 1:40 p.m.
While she was dealing with the scene another crash, involving multiple cars, happened on the same roadway.
The wreck caused a pick-up truck to leave the roadway, hitting Richard and the tow truck driver she was working with. One of the people involved in the first crash was also hit.
The tow truck driver and Richard were pronounced dead at the scene while the other was taken to Ocala Regional Hospital in critical condition.
George Phillips, 52, later died at the hospital from his injuries.
Troopers are still actively investigating what happened. Based on evidence obtained and witness interviews charges could be pending in the case.
Meanwhile FHP and Richard's family are in the process of making funeral arrangements. She is the 45 Florida Highway Patrol trooper to die in the line of duty.
She started with FHP back in 2006 and served for the past nine years.
