UCF student arrested for making bomb threats

ORLANDO, FL -- Police arrested a University of Central Florida student accused of threatening to blow up a school building and kill classmates.

UCF police officials say 31-year-old Cory Carr made the threats in a hallway on Tuesday afternoon. Students who heard Carr immediately called 911.

Officers arrested Carr when he left Classroom Building 1 and evacuated the building. Students were allowed back inside about an hour later.

A bomb-sniffing K-9 unit from the Orange County Sheriff Office's Bomb Squad searched Carr's car in a campus parking garage and alerted that explosives were inside.

The bomb squad and agents from the FBI and ATF closed that garage and another one nearby.

Authorities were not taking any chances with the student's lives.  Technicians blasted the car with a water cannon, but no bomb was found.

Detectives are working to find out what caused the positive hit for explosives on Carr's car.

Carr, who has a criminal record, faces charges of making a false report of a bomb on state property and interfering with the educational process.

Carr was released early Wednesday morning from jail after posting a $5,250 bond.  Besides criminal charges, Carr is expected to face a university disciplinary board over the incident.
