FORT WALTON BEACH, FL (AP) -- Residents in the Panhandle town of Fort Walton Beach can now buy their Sunday football beer on game day. The city has approved an ordinance allowing alcohol sales from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Sunday.

Previously, the town didn't allow businesses to sell alcohol before 1 p.m. on Sunday's.

City council members who approved the ordinance Wednesday afternoon said the move will help area businesses to be more competitive in the tourism-driven economy. Supporters of the change also said it would avoid long lines of people stocking up on alcohol late on Saturday nights.
