WELLINGTON, FL --  Officials shot the bear with a tranquilizer dart as he loitered near a canal.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says it's the same bear officials caught in Weston in late May and moved to Collier County.

The bear weighs about 300 pounds.

According to the commission, there are between 2,500 and 3,000 black bears in the state. They are listed as a threatened species, although it's common to see bears as development encroaches upon their habitat.
