Murdered brother was his best friend

Last Update: 11/01 4:11 am

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) -- A South Florida teenager accused of fatally stabbing his younger brother with a kitchen knife was best friends with his sibling, the teens' father said.

William Gorzynski, 15, misses his brother, 14-year-old Matthew Gorzynski, and forgets he has died, the boys' father, Thomas Gorzynski, said at a news conference Friday.

"This is going to absolutely kill William when he does realize that he won't be with his brother again," Thomas Gorzynski said.

William Gorzynski remains in juvenile custody on suspicion of second-degree murder.

"I want him to come home to people that he loves, and I want him to get help to get over this terrible thing that he's done," Thomas Gorzynski said. "I'm sure the way I'm feeling, it pales in comparison to the way he's feeling right now."

The Coral Springs Police Department released 911 recordings of the incident earlier this week, but Thomas Gorzynski said he hasn't listened to the tapes or read any media coverage of the case. He says he misses both his sons and is in an "unimaginable amount of pain."

According to police in Coral Springs, about 45 miles north of Miami, Matthew was playing music on a home computer. William was watching television nearby and complained the volume was too loud. He told him to turn it down. Matthew refused. The two yelled at each other, then fought.

Authorities say William then went to the kitchen, grabbed a 7-inch knife and stabbed his brother in the chest.

"I know it is a terrible accident," Thomas Gorzynski said. "I love them both very, very much."

A public viewing for Matthew is scheduled for Monday in Coral Springs.
