WESTON, FL (AP) -- Authorities say a dog died after being attacked by a swarm of bees outside a Weston home.

Broward Fire Rescue officials say the 8-year-old beagle was tied up outside the home Tuesday morning. The owner reports hearing a palm frond fall outside and seeing the bees attack his dog, Lucy. The man says he sprayed the bees and the dog with a garden hose, but the dog was dead by the time firefighters arrived.

Animal control workers were called to take the dog's body away. They ruled the death an accident.
