TAMPA -- Deputies rescued a woman whose boyfriend doused her with gasoline and tried to light her on fire on Monday.
Walter Dunn III, 26, of Tampa was arrested and charged with aggravated battery, kidnapping and burglary. He was being held without bail on Tuesday morning.
Dunn has two children with the 27-year-old victim. He punched and kicked his way through a glass door on Drummond Road, cutting the shoulder and face of a man inside, deputies said. Dunn then grabbed his girlfriend by the hair, punched her and dragged her from the home home, according to a sheriff office report. He forced her into a Black Ford Explorer and drove her to his home at 7419 Oak Vista Circle in Tampa, authorities said.
Inside his garage, Dunn allegedly poured gasoline on his girlfriend and tried to ignite the gas with a lighter. When the lighter didn't work, he allegedly struck the victim and tried to cut her fingers with garden sheers. When deputies arrived at the scene, they ordered Dunn to the ground and the woman ran from the home.
She was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa where she was treated for her injuries.
