Last Update: 7/02 7:29 am

HIALEAH, Fla. (AP) -- Police are ripping up floors in a the home of a missing man in a Miami suburb they say has a fool stench coming from underneath the house.

Hialeah police spokesman Eddie Rodriguez says officers aren't sure what the smell is but that it "could be a dead person or a dead animal." Police say the owner of the house has been missing since Saturday. The man's name has not been released.

Authorities arrived at the home Wednesday afternoon and detected the foul odor, and detectives waited for a search warrant. After looking through the house, officers say they determined the smell was coming from below.

Hialeah Fire-Rescue crews were excavating the flooring in the hope of unraveling the mystery. They were scheduled to resume the search Thursday morning.
