Sixteen people were taken to a local hospital following a Sunday night crash involving a church van and a minivan that left the church van on its side, a St. Lucie County Fire District spokeswoman said Monday.

The incident happened in the area of Edwards Road and 25th Street around 9:20 p.m., Fire District spokeswoman Catherine Chaney said.

A total of 20 people were in the vehicles, four of which refused medical attention.

Seven of the 16 people taken to a hospital were children. The extent of the injuries wasn’t immediately clear.
