76 dogs recovered from puppy mill

Reported by: Associated Press
Last Update: 7/03 6:45 am

HOLLISTER, FL (AP) -- Authorities say they've confiscated 76 dogs after raiding an illegal puppy mill in Hollister.

The Putnam County Sheriff's Office responded to an anonymous tip Thursday morning. Officials found there wasn't enough food and water on the property or enough room for the dogs to exercise. Several dogs also appeared to have eye infections.

The breeds included Pekingese, Yorkies, Pomeranians, long-haired dachshunds, Chihuahuas and terriers.

Authorities say the property was not zoned to be a kennel. It also failed to meet other regulations. The owner had not been charged, and authorities were working with him to return the animals if he complies with the law.
