GAINESVILLE, FL (AP) -- An 11-year-old Gainesville girl helped deliver her new baby sister after her mother went into labor and gave birth before emergency crews could arrive.

Authorities say Lashirisha Webb, who wasn't due until Nov. 20, woke up with contractions early Wednesday morning. She called her mother, Glovine Godbolt, and went to wait on the couch, but the contractions quickened and Webb felt the head emerging.

Webb told her daughter, Kierra Nubin, to call 911, and the operator talked Kierra through the quick delivery.

Marnia Smith was born about 3 a.m. and weighed five pounds. An emergency rescue crew arrived minutes after the birth and took the mother and baby to a nearby hospital. They were reportedly in fine condition.
