South Florida deputy jailed on domestic violence charge

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - A Broward County sheriff's deputy is jailed on domestic violence charges after allegedly attempting to strangle his live-in girlfriend.

A police report says 56-year-old Theodore Miller was arrested early Monday. Miller is a 21-year veteran who is now suspended without pay. Court records did not indicate whether he had a lawyer.

The police report says Miller called authorities to say he'd been head-butted by his girlfriend. When deputies arrived, she told them Miller spit in her face and twisted her arm so she fell to the ground. The woman has a prosthetic leg.

She told authorities Miller then punched her and squeezed her throat so it was difficult to breathe. Both were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Miller was being held on $2,000 bail.
