SANFORD, Fla. - George Zimmerman, who was found not guilty in the shooting death of teen Trayvon Martin, helped rescue a family of four trapped in their overturned Ford Explorer, according to the Seminole County Sheriff's Office.
The crash occurred around 5:45 p.m. last Wednesday in the area of Interstate 4 and State Road 46 in Sanford.
The SUV had traveled off the road and rolled over. Two parents and two children were inside. A deputy reported that when he arrived on scene, two men, one of them George Zimmerman, had already helped get the family out of the vehicle.
They were not injured.
Zimmerman did not witness the crash, according to the sheriff's office, and left after talking with the deputy.
Zimmerman's not guilty verdict sparked protests nationwide and death threats against the former neighborhood watch volunteer.
