Phillip Albert Tyrcha, sex offender arrested after 'Find My iPhone' leads detectives to him

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, Fla. - Indian River County Sheriff's Office detectives arrested registered sex offender Phillip Albert Tyrcha after a stolen iPhone led them to his location.

On Monday, January 28, 2013, the victim of an auto burglary in Vero Beach reported his iPhone had been stolen and that the phone's "Find My iPhone" tracking software was enabled.

The victim was able to inform police of the phone's location.

Detectives also learned that the victim's credit card had been used at a Vero Beach Cumberland Farms store.

A surveillance photo of the suspect was obtained from the store and detectives were able to identify Tyrcha as the person using the credit card.

Detectives also spotted a vehicle parked in the suspect's apartment complex that contained the ID card of a Vero Beach High School student who reported that he was the victim of another auto burglary in the same neighborhood.

The ID card was visible from outside the car and a detective recognized the student's name from a previous burglary report.

Detectives located Tyrcha in one of the apartments and found him with the stolen iPhone, several stolen credit cards and ID cards.

They were also able to view surveillance video from the auto burglary. Detectives observed that Tyrcha had on the same shirt in the video that he was wearing when they located him in the apartment.

Tyrcha is a registered sex offender in Martin County, Florida. He is being held in the Indian River County Jail on one count of auto burglary under $20,000 bond.
