N. Fla. man arrested in dog fighting ring

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A north Florida man faces 17 counts of possessing dogs used to fight after an investigation by Jacksonville police and the Humane Society of the United States.

Authorities say 69-year-old Willie B. Coleman was arrested Wednesday and is being held in the Duval County Jail. The dogs were confiscated at Coleman's Kennels, which is operated from a home in Jacksonville.

The Florida Times-Union (http://bit.ly/yJlqrQ ) reports some of the dogs had extensive injuries, including mutilated faces.

Chris Schindler says all 17 dogs were American pit bull terriers. He says the case was under investigation for more than a year.

Schindler says the dogs will be evaluated by behavior experts to determine whether they can be adopted.

Coleman's jail records didn't list an attorney.
