COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. - A Florida father is grieving the loss of his family after his wife and two children crashed into a canal along Alligator Alley on Monday.
WZVN reports that 33-year-old Cecilia Douglas was driving westbound on the I-75 with her 4-year-old, Madison, and 3-year-old, Rylee, when she hit the back of another vehicle. She veered off the road, through barricade cables and landed upside-down in the canal around 8:30 a.m.
Douglas unbuckled her daughters from their car seats before she lost consciousness, rescuers say.
After rescue crews pulled them out, they were taken to the hospital.
Douglas and one of the girls were pronounced dead.
Madison was placed on life support.
After learning that she was brain dead, the surviving father and husband, Nathan Douglas, made the decision to take her off life support.
The funerals will take place in Eustis, Florida, the family's hometown.
Friends and family have set up a fund to help pay for those costs at SunTrust Bank, account number, 157840900.
