Monkey caught eating mail in Sanford

An escaped monkey in Sanford decided to snack on a resident’s mail before officers could return him to his owner, according to Sanford Police Department.

Officers distracted the monkey, named Zeek, by giving him a bottle of water while his owner arrived to pick him up.

Zeek was found eating mail just after 8 a.m. Monday in the Hidden Lakes subdivision, police said. Pictures of the monkey had been shared hundreds of times on the department’s Facebook Tuesday afternoon.
