Photo of George Zimmerman's bloody nose, taken by officer, released by defense team

ORLANDO, Fla. - A higher-quality color version of a photo showing George Zimmerman's face covered with blood was released Monday by Zimmerman's defense team.

Zimmerman's attorneys say the photo was originally a grainy, black and white snapshot taken by an officer in the back of a police car on February 26, the night 17-year-old Trayvon Martin was killed by Zimmerman, the Orlando Sentinel reports.

The photo shows Zimmerman, 28, with a swollen nose and a bloody mouth.

He has been charged with second degree murder, and his defense team says the shooting was in self-defense, citing the Stand Your Ground law.

But attorneys representing Martin's family says Zimmerman's racial profiling is what led to the teen's death.

The newly improved photo was turned over to the defense by prosecutors and posted to Zimmerman's website, where he also collects donations to cover his expenses.

His defense team claims there will be more evidence revealed as soon as it's been "properly redacted."
