2 nurses pistol whipped, suspect killed in Halifax Hospital shooting

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Johnathan Rodriguez-Jeff is identified in the shooting that took place at a Florida hospital

Halifax Hospital was on lockdown Sunday morning after an unidentified man shot his way into the hospital.

According to Daytona Beach police, the suspect shot out the glass entry way doors to the hospital's Professional Building. Soon after he was inside he confronted a patient and nurse.

The suspect reportedly asked the two victim's if the "wanted to die tonight." After leaving the first two victims the suspect went into another room where he found another nurse and patient. The suspect then turned the gun on himself and fatally shot himself in the head.

At some point during the confrontations the suspect hit both nurses in the head with the butt of his gun. They sustained minor injuries.

No patients were hurt during the ordeal. Hospital staff were able to lockdown the emergency room and other hospital entrances to ensure further security to the hospital.

Shortly before officers responded to shots being fire at the hospital a report of a someone firing at a moving car had come in. The car was traveling on Clyde Morris. It is unclear if the two calls are related.
