2 Bahamian men adrift on capsized boat for 8 days rescued off Fla. coast

RIVIERA BEACH, Fla. - Two Bahamian men who told a rescue swimmer they had been adrift for eight days in the Atlantic Ocean were found lying on the hull of their small boat off the coast of Florida on Saturday.

According to the U.S. Coast Guard, they were alerted to a capsized vessel with two people on the boat near Riviera Beach in south Florida.

A USCG cutter and rescue helicopter were diverted to the area from Miami. The rescue helicopter found the men and lowered the rescue swimmer.

The men told the rescue swimmer they had been adrift for more than a week and had ingested salt water.

A picture from the rescue released by the USCG showed the men reaching to alert the helicopter of their presence on the white hull.

The men were hoisted to the helicopter and flown to Del Ray Medical Center in Delray Beach, Fla. in unknown condition.
