ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. - A small plane crash landed on Hwy. 301 Saturday in Zephyrhills. The pilot, who was the only one board, suffered only minor injuries, said the Pasco County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Melanie Snow.
Witnesses said the crash happened on Hwy. 301 near Chancey Rd. in front of a Cumberland Farms store around 11:30 .a.m. A worker at the Cumberland Farms store said it appeared to be a small prop plane and she heard some power lines "pop" as the plane came down. She said parts of the plane were damaged but the plane appeared to be in one piece and landed upright.
Pasco County Fire Rescue said some fuel from the plane was leaking and they were working to contain it.
Zephyrhills Municipal Airport is nearby, but there's no word yet on if the plane was taking off or headed there. The pilot claimed mechanical error. The FAA will be investigating.
