Senate hearing on scams targeting the elderly

Several people who have fallen victim to con-artists are set to testify in front of a Senate committee examining the rise in scams, particularly targeting the elderly.
U.S. Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL), the committee’s chairman, and other lawmakers called for the hearing after receiving complaints from victims through the committee’s fraud hotline.
According to the FTC, Americans targeted by scams have lost more than $73 million, but that figure is low because most victims fail to report the crime.
This hearing is one of several hearings aimed at putting a spotlight on the devastating impact of fraud on seniors.
