SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg reached out to other big companies in social media and mobile data to provide internet access to the entire world.
The group is called internet.org. It's a partnership between Samsung, Nokia, Qualcomm, Ericsson, MediaTek and Opera.
Zuckerberg says they have a rough plan to deliver internet access to the world's 7-billion people. The group will develop joint projects, share knowledge, and mobilize industry and governments to bring the world online.
Only about one third of the world's population has internet access. An estimated 5-billion people do not have internet access.
