FTC gives go ahead to Social Intelligence Corp to perform social media background checks

TAMPA - Social media background checks? They're coming, and they could cost you a potential job.

The Federal Trade Commission recently gave a new company the go ahead to dig up your dirt on social networking sites.

According to Forbes , the FTC determined that Social Intelligence Corp. was in compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act. So what does that mean?

Social Intelligence Corp. is allowed to search for Facebook photos and videos that you may not want potential employers to see and then use those photos for employer background checks.

What is even worse is that those photos and videos are then put into a file that can live for up to seven years, meaning that deleting this embarrassing material from your page won't even matter if it has already been found by Social Intelligence.

Do you think this is fair? Leave a comment.
