Firms unite for smartphone eyeglasses

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - Two firms are teaming up with Google to find entrepreneurs who want to create applications and accessories for Google Glass.  Google Glass is a wearable computer with a head-mounted display.

The partnership will join Google with the firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.  The other firm involved is Andreessen Horowitz.  Having three firms involved is expected to lead to better funding.

The groups are trying to raise $2 million to support ideas for software and other equipment for the glasses.

The device can live-stream images, record video, access email and the Internet.  Google Glass isn't expected to be released on the mass market until 2014.
