Facebook, other social networks stimulate same area of brain as sex, Harvard researchers say

For those of you who can't get enough of social media, a new study claims it's because Facebook, Twitter and similar networks are like candy for the brain, according to a Los Angeles Times article.

In fact, Harvard researchers behind the study say social media stimulates the same part of the brain used when people eat food, get money or have sex.

The key to that stimulation is the kick people get out of sharing information and talking about themselves.

Social media simply provides a convenient catalyst to gratify that urge.  The test subjects in this experiment were hooked up to MRI machines and asked a series of questions.

When people were speaking about themselves, their brains were very engaged, but when they were talking about someone else, there was less engagement.
