Water Works park set to open along the Hillsborough River

TAMPA - The excitement is building in Tampa this Tuesday morning, and we are here to document it!  A brand-new water park is opening today, fulfilling a dream of Mayor Bob Buckhorn.

And it is ready. The Water Works water park is all spiffed up and ready to welcome guests. Of course, the first guests will be wearing suits and carrying scissors.

That's because at 10 am, the Mayor -- and a whole host of civic supporters -- will formally open the park, the focal feature of the new $6.5 million revitalization of this once "full-of-potential" but abandoned property along the Hillsborough River.

The park will have a large play area for kids, a dog park, and plenty of open space.  It will basically anchor the north end of the Hillsborough River.  The mayor telling ABC Action News that this is going to be a game changer.

"We are making the river the center of everything we do," said the Mayor. "And the investment that we will make in places like this will trigger private sector investment up and down the river -- meaning jobs, meaning  tax base, meaning revenues… So this -- I love this.  I love being out here and I think that the city is going to as well."

Again a ribbon-cutting on this park set for this place at 10 this morning, It'll be open for you and the kids by this weekend.
