Unattended package found in Tampa; South Dale Mabry was closed between Bay to Bay Blvd and San Juan

Package addressed to Tampa Bay Times

TAMPA - An alert woman out for a bike ride Tuesday morning noticed a suspicious package under a mailbox in South Tampa.

Tampa Police arrived and discovered the package at Santiago Street West and Dale Mabry Highway.

It was addressed to the Tampa Bay Times, but did not have postage, or a return address.

A K-9 was brought to the scene and alerted on the package, which prompted the Bomb Team to respond.

At 11:45 a.m., a Bomb Team member could be seen from Action Air 1 lying on the ground, carefully opening the package and going through its contents.  [Pictures and Video in the Player]

Tampa Police told ABC Action News the package was filled with garbage.

The package is now being tested to determine what type of odor the K-9 picked up on.

Due to the active investigation, South Dale Mabry was closed between Bay to Bay Blvd and San Juan Street.

It has been reopened.
