Turn in unused, expired medication during Operation Medicine Cabinet

As part of an ongoing effort to crack down on illegal pill mills and prevent prescription drug abuse, many local law enforcement agencies are participating in Operation Medicine Cabinet Prescription Drug Take-Back Day this Saturday.

Here is a list of local locations and times where you can turn in unused or expired prescription medications to keep those types of drugs from getting into the wrong hands - no questions asked.

Zephyrhills Police Department - 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

For those unable to attend the September 29 event, unwanted medications may also be taken to the county's permanent drop site, located at the Winter Haven Police Department, 125 North Lake Silver Drive NW, in Winter Haven, weekdays between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Medications may also be safely disposed of at home in the following manner: Dissolve medications in water, and mix with coffee grounds or cat litter. Then, pour into a zip lock bag and put in your trash. Do not dump any medications into the toilet or your trash, to avoid harming lakes and ground water.
